Custom Brand Mascot & IP Character Sculptures: The Complete Fiberglass Buyer's Guide
A 3-metre version of your mascot at a mall entrance, a giant IP character as a theme-park photo spot, identical greeters across every franchise store — turning a 2D character into a durable fiberglass sculpture is one of the highest-ROI brand installations there is. This guide covers the part buyers worry about most (IP & licensing), the full 2D-to-finished production workflow, brand-color matching, sizes, chain rollouts, cost and shipping.
Why Brands Turn 2D Mascots Into Fiberglass Statues
A life-size or giant character creates a photo-op that visitors share, increases dwell time, anchors seasonal campaigns and gives a brand a physical presence customers remember. Fiberglass (FRP) is the material of choice because it is light enough for 3 m+ and rooftop installs, takes a flawless paintable surface, and survives years outdoors.

Can You Make a Statue of OUR Character? IP, Licensing & Ownership
This is the first question brand and licensing managers ask, so let us answer it plainly. You must own or be licensed for the character. We manufacture strictly to the artwork you supply or authorise — a made-to-order / work-for-hire arrangement — and we are happy to sign an NDA and never reuse your IP. Knowing the difference between trademark and copyright protects both sides; licensing disputes over mascots are well documented by the International Trademark Association.
Who owns the 3D files & molds
For a custom build, you own the rights to your piece. We can store your molds exclusively so reorders for new store openings come out identical — crucial for chain consistency.
From 2D Character Art to Finished Sculpture
You do not need a 3D file — a turnaround sheet or original art plus brand color codes is enough. Our workflow:

The key to a true-to-character result (“神还原”) is multiple approval gates: you sign off the 360° render, then the painted-piece photos, with a physical color swatch proofed against your brand artwork. Paint is automotive-grade 2K PU matched to your Pantone/CMYK codes for vibrancy and outdoor longevity.

Why Fiberglass Is the Right Material
FRP is roughly one-seventh the weight of steel, so a 4 m mascot can still be craned and mounted; it captures the crisp, smooth, “neat” surface cartoon characters need; and with UV-stable resin plus a clear topcoat it lasts 10+ years outdoors. It also moulds repeatable identical units — ideal for chains. Foam is cheaper but short-lived and indoor-only; cast resin suits small desktop figures but gets heavy and brittle at scale; bronze and stone are the wrong look and cost for a cartoon IP.
Sizes & Use Cases
| Size | Typical use | Build notes |
|---|---|---|
| 0.3–1 m (desktop) | Retail counter, POS, gifts | Solid/light shell |
| 1–2 m (life-size) | Store entrance, photo greeter | Light internal frame |
| 2–4 m (large) | Mall atrium, park plaza | Steel armature standard |
| 4–6 m+ (giant) | Theme-park hero / landmark | Engineered armature, sectioned, anchored |
One Hero Piece vs Chain Rollout
A single hero piece carries the full 3D-modeling and mold cost. For a chain or franchise rollout, that mold work amortises across units and — because we store your molds — every location gets an identical mascot now and on every reorder as you open new stores. Cross-location brand consistency at a lower per-unit cost is the big advantage of ordering a series together.
What Drives Cost & Lead Time
| Factor | Effect |
|---|---|
| Size / height | Material + labour scale with volume |
| Pose & detail | Complex poses add sculpting/mold hours |
| Finish | Basic paint cheapest; metallic/texture/automotive add cost |
| Indoor vs outdoor | Outdoor adds UV finish + steel armature + anchoring |
| Quantity | Batch/chain orders lower per-unit price |
Lead time: 3D modeling and approval ~1–2 weeks, then mold and production scale with size and quantity — a single large piece is typically several weeks from sign-off. Faster approvals and fewer revisions shorten the clock. For full process, shipping and payment terms see our guide to commissioning a custom sculpture.
